Profession: Retired from GTE Telecommunication’s management. Educational background in Industrial Electricity and Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering. Career opportunities included engineering and management responsibilities at the following companies: General Dynamics/Telecommunications, Rochester, NY, North Electric Telecommunications Research Lab, Galion, Ohio, Eastman Kodak Corporate Office, Rochester, NY, GTE Northwest, Everett, WA.

       

Size of Ponds: Outdoor pond, 3,500 gallons liner constructed pond with two bio-falls and a 800 gallon "bog garden" filtration system and a UV. The indoor pond, 22,000 gallons, is a concrete heated pond that is equipped with three Nexus filters, a bead filter, UV lamp, three bottom drains w/air domes and the quarantine pond, under construction at this time, 2,700 gallons, will be equipped with bottom drain w/air dome, Nexus filter, UV, heated and semi-enclosed when completed.

Years in the hobby: 10 years

Affiliated Clubs: Primary, Inland Empire Water Garden & Koi Society-1997, member of Washington Koi & Water Garden Society, Puget Sound Koi Club and Northwest Koi and Goldfish Society.

Positions held in primary club: Club President (1 year), Club Vice President (1 year) Club Board Member at large (1 year), Newsletter Editor (41/2 years) Club Koi Show Co-Chair (2 years), and Club PNKCA Representative and a KHA. I have also been club photographer (unofficial club position) for most shows, pond tours and other club activities.

Other koi related Activities: Current Vice Chairman of PNKCA (Pacific Northwest Koi Clubs Association) past Newsletter Editor (31/2 years). Became an AKCA Certified Koi Health Advisor during 2004. Have made power point presentations on building our indoor pond and pond construction to Mid-Columbia Koi & Pond Club and Washington Koi & Water Garden Society. Made a power point presentation on the All Japan Show and our visits to Japan Breeders facilities to the Puget Sound Koi Club. Presented a power point presentation of pond construction at the Washington Koi & Water Garden Society 2005 Koi Show to the attending public and visiting club members. More recent, conducted external workshops for those interested this spring for members of the Inland Empire Water Garden & Koi Society on water quality and testing, pond construction techniques, pond filtration, koi anatomy and at the August club meeting, a power point presentation on the necessity of quarantining your fish. Visited Quality Koi’s Nisei Koi Farm in New Jersey to observe a mud pond harvest in 2004.

Accomplishments: AKCA Koi Person of the Year Award from the Inland Empire Water Garden & Koi Society, PNKCA Ed Fujimoto Inspirational Award from the Inland Empire Water Garden & Koi Society. I have been fortunate to travel to Japan several times to attend the All Japan Show and visit breeders facilities, mud pond harvests and attend Sakai of Isawa master classes. I have had several articles/events published in the Koi USA magazine and clubs newsletters. My wife, Phyllis and I have shown koi in the 2003 Greater Phoenix Open Koi Show, the Washington Koi & Water Garden Society Koi Shows, Puget Sound Koi Club Young Koi Shows and the Northwest Koi & Goldfish Society Koi Show and the Nozomi Young Koi Show. We have been fortunate to acquire along the way a couple Young Champion Awards, Best of Size Awards and most recently at the 2006 7th Annual Inland Empire Water Garden & Koi Society Koi Show, we were awarded Grand Champion for our Momataro 29" plus Sanke and Reserve Grand Champion A for our Toshio Sakai 28" Showa and Reserve Grand Champion B for our Toshio Sakai Gin Rin 28" Showa and last but not least the Judges Award for our 28" Shiro Utsuri. We were awarded the first annual PNKCA Koi of the Year in 2005 representing the Washington Koi & Water Garden Society. I am very fortunate that Phyllis is into this hobby and very supportive. Phyllis is also an AKCA certified KHA, Koi Person of the Year, Ed Fujimoto Inspirational Award and the Roy Jordan Memorial Award recipient from the Inland Empire Water Garden & Koi Society.
